Exploitation by the Few
Of the Many

We the many built their world: clad their yachts, mortared their mansions... All the while our worlds are shrinking to the inch of land we stand upon.

Humans exploit humans who are without recourse
The demands of the few outweighing the needs of the many
The wants of the few growing beyond the means of the many to give
And the world of the many shrinks
To the one inch of land upon which they exist

We, it's we, the many we
Who have the power
To turn globes
Create societies
From tribes and communities small
To Nations spanning oceans and skies

We created the economy that feeds the greedy few
It's us, we, who clads their yachts
Mortar the bones of their mansions
Their estates
Their highrises and holdings
It's we who breathe breath into the medicines
Upon which
They dream their megalomanic dreams
And dare to cripple and confuse and beguile
Us into unending submission

The many is strength unknown
We're lost in the cares of survival
Our educations, mortgages
Our zeroed-out bank balances
The source of our next meal
The futures of our children
The pall of climate change and
The faltering of our democracies

Take a pill for yourself
Oh many
You the many
See the strength of the chains you think
Hold your will in check
Those chains are ephemeral
Nonexistent puffs of air
Chains of belief alone
Shackles that only bind you
Because you
Refuse to believe yourselves free
Bindings in the mind
Placed there by the stories told by the few
Bonds engraved by daily struggles
And the wish for a life of ease

But nothing good ever came from easy
And towers aren't built upon
The wisps of wishful thinking
Your yokes cannot remove themselves
From your necks

Stand you up and declare your defiance
In determination
Join you with hands of us, the many
Our freedom from the few
Is but mere steps away

A freedom the few refuse to acknowledge
A prosperity that is the right of us all
A society built on the needs of the many
To be fed by power clawed back from the few

Their weakness is our strength
And they know it
For we are many
And they are but a few
