Fear, Hatred, Sex
is there any room for love, compassion, camaraderie?
companionship, truthfulness, honest connection
ties that bind humanity, ties that bond us into society?
Catch my eye with colours bold
flashing hues, garish purple and green
hauntingly ghastly tones of mystery
lack of control, a shivering prey
reduce me to a blathering mess
rule me conquering my brain's primal need
for security, for safety, for freedom from predation
tell me i'm hopeless, the world's out to get me
prove me incompetent, alone in obscurity
fearful of the end, fearing my fellows
walking your plank straight to the gallows
I buy what you're selling
hook, line and sinker
cortisol spiking, a fish hooked and writhing
Red as blood aflame, ballistic, belligerent
flushed in the face as you flaunt your indignance
how could they, can or should they?
they're out to dominate
stand you up!
fight you bravely!
you curdle my wits with wit razor sharp
speak in tones of outrageous injustice
accuse those around me of being my betters
accuse those betters of being my tormentors
blare the sirens of pessimistic rhetoric
catch my brain in a web of tangling intrigue
beguile my capacity for reasonable calm
selling me anger in outraged storms
you've sold me successfully
upon your righteous cause
my thumb keeps a'scrollin
as anger demands more
Luscious pinks and feathery hues
sultry imagery of bodily sinew
leather, pleather, shiny black Lycra
silhouettes of clefts in the nether enticing
shocking pictures that rattle my senses
waking the beasts that ravage sense asunder
pulse a-raging, heart a-throb throbbing
body parts mingling, vision a-tingling
I need what you're selling, can't think naught but buying
the promise of pleasure, deceit doesn't matter
I crave what your giving and drink it with vigour
e'en if your product is just hair conditioner
Today's world of flipping, scrolling, never ending
cycles of doom, fearful, tearful, indignant pratter
bold, all bold, headlines caging attention
deep spiraling rabbit holes of never ending content
conversations started for the sake of unceasing engagement
intent upon building your numbers of watchers
to line pockets of gold overflowing with more and more
tired eyes fatigued going blind with exhaustion
in the middle of the night
during work in the daytime
another cheap laugh
a slapstick comedy seen a billion times
of kittens banging pianos
and dogs woofing show tunes in time
You've hijacked our brains
are robbing us blind
to sell us more ads
buying riches from your clients placements
the capacity for humanity
to connect in real life
is near to dead or dying
as your efforts strangle our waking moments
Fear, Hatred, Sex
is there any room left for love?
is there a waking from this stupor
a freedom from your clutches?
can there please, please finally be
an end to your blasted marketing?
